In 1951, he joined the Jinyu Qin Musicians Association and learned the qin under WU Jing-lue and ZHANG Zi-qian. In 1956, he worked at the Academia Sinica Institute of Computing Technology, Beijing as a research fellow. At that time, he joined the Beijing Qin Society and learned the qin under ZHA Fu-xi.
