An-lun HUANG (March 15, 1949 – )<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An-lun HUANG is a composer, conductor, and educator. He is a Chinese composer based in Canada and a member of the Canadian League of Composers. He has been listed in the “World Biography” and “Chinese Encyclopedia”. Huang was born on March 15, 1949, in Panyu, Guangdong Province, China. He began learning the piano at the age of five under the guidance of his father, HUANG Fei-li and mother. By the age of seven, he had completed his first piano collection. At that time, the renowned Chinese composer MA Si-cong commented that he had “a rich imagination”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1961, Huang entered the Affiliated Music Primary School of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He later joined the piano department of the affiliated middle school, where he studied under LOU Gan-mei and SHAO Yuan-xin. After graduating in 1968, he worked on a farm affiliated with the Beijing Military Region and later joined the Beijing Opera Troupe. During this period, he studied folk music and opera composition under composer CHEN Zi, which had a decisive influence on his compositional style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1976, Huang became a member of the Chinese Musicians Association and was appointed as a resident composer at the Central Opera House. In 1979, he went to North America and pursued further studies at the University of Toronto, the University of Pittsburgh, and Yale University. In 1983, he was conferred the title of Fellow at Trinity College of Music in the UK. In addition to receiving full scholarships, he obtained his Master’s degree in music from Yale University in 1986, earning the “Outstanding Award”. To promote Chinese culture overseas, he served as the Chairman of the Ontario Chinese Music Association for three consecutive terms until 1996.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huang’s works encompass a wide range of genres in classical music, including opera, ballet, film, choral music, vocal music, chamber music, instrumental solos, Broadway musicals, and over twenty symphonies. He is considered one of the most prolific Chinese composers. In 1987, Huang was honored with the “Outstanding Chinese” title in Toronto, Canada. In 1992, his ballet “Dream of Dunhuang” was selected as one of the “Chinese Music Classics of the 20th Century” under the auspices of the Chinese National Cultural Promotion Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His conducting activities include working with ensembles such as the China National Symphony Orchestra, the Central Opera House, the China Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Russian Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Chinese Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
