YAN Hay-den<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n YAN Hay-den was born in 1930 in Dingxiang county, Shanxi province and passed away of illness at the age of seventy-four on April 5, 2004 in Tianjin. He learned the sheng, suona, dizi<\/em> and percussions from ZHANG He-bao at the age of eight. In 1953, he was selected to participate in the Join Performances of Folk Music and Dance of Shanxi Province, since that he was appointed to the Song and Dance Troupe of Tianjin as a soloist until his retirement. At the end of 1950s, he composed and successfully performed the famous sheng<\/em> solo pieces Melody of Jin<\/em> and A Peacock Displaying His Feathers<\/em>. He wrote the book Performance Skills of Sheng<\/em> together with other musician.
