WU Zhao-ji was born in winter 1908 in Hanshou, Hunan Province and passed away in August 1997 at the age of 90. In 1912, he followed his father WU Lan-sun to change their dwelling place to Suzhou. In the age of thirteen, he started to learn the qin under his father and later under WU Chen-yang who taught him The Mist and Clouds over Xiao-Xiang Rivers and Song of the Fisherman.
