He was a member of an ensemble The Tang\u2019s Family<\/em> as a performer with his father and grand father. In 1953, he joined the China Traditional Orchestra. In 1956, he was appointed to the Beijing Central News and Motion Picture Studio Orchestra (now called the China Movie Orchestra) as a performer. In 1963, he was selected to participate in the 4th<\/sup> Shanghai Spring Festival\u2019s national erhu<\/em> competition and won the second prize. In 1971, He and ZHANG Shao together wrote and published the book Erhu Performance<\/em>. In 1977, he migrated to Hong Kong and joined the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. In 1978, he was appointed to the Hong Kong Music Office as the Chinese music training director and the conductors of the orchestras attached to it until his retirement in 1998.
